Day of the Dead

Today Sean & I went to our favourite Mexican store to buy some hand blown glasses for my sister's birthday. While there, I had to go and look at their "Day of the Dead" sculptures. The sculptures, although a bit morbid, have always intrigued me. Sean bought one for me:

We had a great time at steak night last night. Unfortunately, our hostess, Tara, was unable to make it to her own party. Tara was on call last night and she had to do 2 baby medevacs last night. Basically, their company does airplane medevacs and when they have to fly a sick baby within Alberta they are usually gone for close to 4 to 6 hours. She was called on 2 baby medevac flights - each back to back to each other. As such, we enjoyed the hospitality of her house without her presence. Of course, her dog Daisy was there to keep us company

If you want to see more photos from some of Sean's latest flights and from our steak night, check out our flickr webpage.

steak nite

Most likely no one else will see the humour in this blog post. It is one of those funny laugh out louds for the people who are involved.
Basically, over the past 3 days our little group have been emailing back and forth about our BBQ night tomorrow night. We are bound and determined that our having our first "spring" (even though we still have 20 days of "official" winter) BBQ will cause the snow to stop blowing. We all have worked very hard over the latest drilling season and we want an EARLY spring break up.
So, back to emailing back and forth... it started out with an innocent confirmation email from Tara in regards to time of the BBQ, who is bringing what, and volunteering our buddy Tom to be the man about the BBQ.
From this innocent email, things slowly went down hill...I think the start of the debauchery was when Tom or Doug made a comment that they were bringing dessert and a pair of speedos. That thread of the email bounced back and forth for awhile, and then Tom, made a comment about beefcake and Doug wearing speedos, and emailed us a quick and dirty photoshop of Doug:

So, there were some emails back and forth about speedos and the like. Sean made a few email comments about sagging scrotum and then we went further down the road of nastiness with a discussion about labia (roast beef curtains) . . . which brought in the comment from one friend that he was going to become a vegetarian after all of this talk . . .
So, the emails went around and around about the BBQ and speedos, and scrotum yoghurt and chocolate wax, waxing asses, scrotum tucks, roast beef curtains and etc...
Then, this final email from Meghann:
"Hi all,
I just opened my email(after 3 very busy work days)to find 37! unread
messages! Seriously does nobody work?

See you all tomorrow and thanks for the entertainment:)
Meg"
Sean & I were concurrently checking our emails from our respective computers and read Meg's message almost simultaneously... well, her email caused a huge burst of laughter from both us.
Again, I think this is a comment that will only get everyone in our group laughing, but I thought I would share it with y'all.
Ok, it is early and I am TIRED. Sean didn't get home until the wee hours of the morn. No matter how quiet he is when he comes home, I do wake up . . . So I am going to go catch some Z's.
Toodles,
CG

PS: an update to our emailing silliness:

A response to Meghann's post from Sean:

Thanks Meghann that was the most I laughed out of this whole email thing.
Sean

And a reply to Meghann's email from Shauna:

I have to second Meghann's opinion.......you guys are sad, sad little
beings!!!! :o)
First of all...Tom, I'm a little concerned about one of your emails....it read,

"Speedos are optional. if you know what I mean.
Yes Jody will be there."

Why is it that you are talking about speedos being optional and your sister at the same time?? Am I the only one that finds that a wee bit disturbing?? Secondly, I think it's time we put the pomegranate on the term scrotum yogurt...or any variance of the term.....oh, wait, I just threw up a little in my mouth.....ewwww Thirdly, and finally...Tom you are a genius with photoshop...the picture is fantastic, I think I'll frame it!!! I love you all..... and really enjoyed reading the discussions of the last three days. Can't wait until tomorrow!! Shauna

Does God Really Speak Through an A$$?

Urgh. Saint Skybar came across some biblical spewing know-it-alls on the blogosphere. Their post, while narrow minded, conceited and in my mind is so very one-sided, is still their post, and I guess they are allowed to voice their opinions.

However, what bothers me about this post is the blindness, the inability to actual think on their own. People who can not make an intelligent opinion that is based on research (from BOTH sides of the argument) drive me absolutely BONKERS.

I used to feel sorry for narrow minded people like the ones St. Skybar mentions in his blog. But now, I just want to shout at them, "Use your God given gray matter, for no matter what the Bible says, I don't think that God will speak through an ASS"

La Ronge Part Deux

So, while other people go away to Mexico, or Hawaii for a winter break, we (we=Marns, Lester, Marn's folks and Sean and me) instead go to La Ronge, SK for a week of snow mobiling, ice fishing and beer-drinking. (well, and a little bit of wine drinking, but we won't discuss that!)

We left late Sunday night and drove straight through to La Ronge (with a 45 minute nap break on the side of the road outside of Kindersley and a breakfast break in Saskatoon). We arrived Monday at noon, and caught up with Marns and et al at about 2pm.

Marn's parents have a pretty neat, rustic cabin that really complements the idea of "roughing it" (no running water in the winter time) with a mixture of "princess camping" (central heating was provided by a huge wood stove, satellite TV and a fully functional kitchen)

We spent Monday toodling around in the dark on snow mobiles. Marns' skidoo landed in a huge drift of snow, which made her Mom tumult off of the back of the skidoo. Sean's snow mobile landed several times in soft snow as well. We learnt quickly that digging a skidoo out of the snow can be hard work and that it doesn't take long to work up a sweat!

Tuesday was spent snow mobiling and ice fishing. We didn't catch any fish, but I was able to get my cheeks frost bitten (hence I earned the squaw name of "frozen cheek"). Tuesday was a bitter, cold day. It was about -20 celsius outside, but the wind really howled around us on the frozen lake ... I am not sure how cold it was with the wind chill, but I have to assume it was frickin' freezin' outside, as my face was only exposed for maybe 5 minutes, and by the time we got to the cabin, my cheeks were white . . .

Wednesday, Sean, Marns and Marns' dad went snow mobiling and ice fishing, while the rest of us gals lazed around the cabin. I finished reading Alice Hoffman's book, Ice Queen, which I had borrowed from Quodlibet. We watched a few movies and did absolutely nothing in particular. That day, while we were in the warmth of the cabin, Sean caught 2 pike and Marn's caught 3 pike. We had quite the fish feast that night!

Thursday, after toodling around on the snow mobiles again, we headed out in the early afternoon to Saskatoon. We slept overnight at Marn's parents place. On Friday, we ended up driving back home in the midst of a snow storm. We were home around 4:30 PM.

Photos from our trip can be found on Marn's site, or on our flickr site.

Ok, I started this post at 12:30, and now it is almost 13:30 - I guess the "interruption" called work is getting in the way of my blogging time . . .

Toodles!
