Out & About

Since my last blog entry on the 3rd of July, both Sean & I have been quite busy.

First of all, prior to the 3rd of July, we spent the Canada Day Long Weekend camping with our good friends Sandra & Steve and their little one Brandon.

That Friday, (the 5th) we were going to go on another camping trip, when Sean got a call from work with instructions he was going on another airplane (the Beech 1900D) - and he was to report to sim training in Toronto, Ontario.  Since Tuesday the 10th Sean has been in Toronto.

While Sean has been out of province, I have been keeping myself quite busy - both at work and socially.  The Tuesday that Sean left was also when a bunch of old elementary/jr high/sr high friends met up for a plethora of "remember whens".  We had a great time catching up on a lot of good stories.  It is amazing, I forgot how much these people from my childhood mean to me. It really is like we are family - we can take up where we left off and chatter about everything.

Today, Marnie & I did a hike up moose mountain.  It was my 2nd hike up to the summit of a mountain, and this one was far more enjoyable than when we did Mt. Yamnuska.  The view up top was spectacular - like I always say to my hiking/biking partners, if there is a god out there, this is my way of getting in touch with this higher being... my idea of "church".

As usual, during our 4-hour hike, Marnie and I solved all of the world problems.  If only we ruled the world . . .

After our hike, Marns, Lester & I went to Hooters (of all places) for a well deserved beer and burgers.  I think I was the only person in the restaurant who wasn't turned on by the titties!

Anyways, Marns has posted pics from our hike on her facebook site . . . so check out the photos that she tagged of me!

Well, time for me to go and flake out on the couch!

Toodles!

Update

In the beginning of June, we headed out to van isle (vancouver island) to spend some time with my family.

We spent some good quality time with our nephews and our niece (go-karting, hiking, bike-riding, pedicures, goofing around, etc).

We were also able to spend some good quality time with my aunt & uncle prior to their return to NL.

We biked a portion of the Trans Canada Trail - to the portion of the old train trestle (about a 30 km out and back).  We also hiked Mt. Tzouhalen a couple of times.  It is too bad that we didn't ride our bikes on any of the trails on the mountain, as they are quite sweet.

We spent a few nights out at the Lake Cabin.  The water was very frigid, but we were able to convince our nephews to dive off of the dock (for 50 bucks each)...  it was hilarious to see their heads pop out of the water and to hear them yell how cccccoold the water was!

As well, we did a trip to the cemetery where my Dad was laid to rest.

We timed our trip so that we could be on the island for Chris' 10th birthday.  We had a great time, and over the entire week, I would have to say that all of us adults drank way too much wine and blueberry dessert wine.

Well, enjoy the pics!

Crazy Cat

After reading Marns' post about dead gophers and poop, I thought about my crazy cat. I can actually hear him right now... he is going ape shit in the litter box.

Lemme back up a bit to tell you the story of eddie.

Over 4 years ago, our beloved precious orange freak of a cat (Jack) passed away. Jack had a stroke (we think) right in front of Sean and he died in our arms. It was a very sad day (worse then when my dad died 6 months earlier).

Over the next few weeks, as we mourned over little Jackie, his "bro" Josh also missed Jack. Josh would wander around our apartment howling and "searching" for Jack. It got to the point where we could not leave the condo without Josh trying to block the doorway so we would not leave.

As such, we started searching for a new brother for Josh. We really weren't too keen on getting another cat, as we felt in some morbid way that we were "cheating" on Jack. However, Josh's loneliness soon outweighed our sense of guilt. We adopted Eddie through the M.E.O.W. foundation

Eddie had been abandoned by his former owners and when he first joined our family, he was very skittish. Right from the start, we noticed that he was a very loving cat.  He would seek us out and he would rub our legs over and over again.  However, he was not one to come and cuddle, or one to allow us to pet him.  Over time, he bonded with me, but it took him longer to trust Sean. Because of this, we have come to the conclusion that Eddie must have been abused by a man.

During the last two years, Eddie has really begun to feel comfortable around us. He chases Josh around our house and he openly plays with his cat nip toys without being afraid of us, should we walk by while he is in the midst of his fun.  He now lets us rub him (he especially likes tummy rubs) and he also rubs our friends legs when they come over for a visit.

Lately, we have begun to discover that he is a crazy cat.  For Christmas, my sister gave us this great cow hide for our living room (we call it a "cowpet")  Eddie loves to lay on the rug and roll around on it and rub against the rug for hours.  (literally, hours!)  He also chases absolutely nothing . . . and likes to hide and wait so that he can attack Josh when he walks by.

Just this past week, we have now realized that he is even crazier then we had first thought.  While we were on van isle, we arranged to have a pet sitter come in and check up on our boyz.  We didn't want the pet sitter to have to go all the way into Sean's workshop in the basement to access the litter box, so we set up the boys' bathrooms on the first flight of stairs into our basement.

Since we have been back from BC., I have been terribly busy with work, and Sean has been recuperating from a nasty sinus infection that he caught while out in BC.  As such, we have left the litter boxes on the landing of the stairs.

After I cleaned out the boxes the other night, I heard all of this rumbling and scratching around.  The noise was coming from the area of the litter box.  I checked out the basement stairs and all what I could see were these two glowing eyes in the dark.  I flipped on the light switch to discover Eddie in one of the recently cleaned litter boxes.  He was stretched out to his entire length and he was laying in the litter box.  As I watched.  He rolled around in the litter box.  He turned onto his back and lay in the litter, with all four of his legs pointing towards the ceiling.  Then he arched his head and rolled onto one side and ground his head into the litter - in a quasi erotic type of movement...  (note:  I never thought I would use the word "erotic" to describe one of my cats!)  Then, he rolled onto his other side and repeated this incident.  Next, he rolled onto his stomach and swished the litter with his tail.  All the while, his eyes were gleaming...

Needless to say, I felt like I was intruding on a very private and er... romantic moment.  So, I closed the basement door to give Eddie and the, um, litter boxes some privacy...

Crazy cat!!

I'm Back

So, we arrived back home LATE last night from van isle.

I am so frickin' tired!

More later . . .
